GAS-FIRED COGENERATION PLANT

Monsanto is a Fortune 500 company that provides sustainable innovations to farmers in the fields of seeds and crop protection. Monsanto produces in their Antwerp plant the herbicide glycophosphate also known as RoundUp®.

A CallensVyncke gas-fired cogeneration plant matching both heat and electricity demand resolved the deficit in steam production following the shutdown of a cogeneration unit exploited by Electrabel. The post-combustion heat creation is maximised while respecting the strict NOx and CO emission limits.

A complete new turn-key CHP was integrated within the limited free area of the utilities block. The strict Monsanto standards where followed to facilitate further maintenance and operation of the installation after hand-over. CallensVyncke supplied and integrated:

  • Caterpillar Turbomach T60 gas turbine with three-stage filtration
  • Post combustion burner
  • Heat recovery steam generator (65ton/h @ 31barg)
  • Building according to Synergrid for Medium voltage and control panels
  • Control panels according Monsanto standards
  • Stack (30 meter)
  • Flue gas silencer
  • Transformer
  • Medium voltage panels
  • Support for connecting to the grid
  • Piping (Gas, Feedwater, Steam)
  • Cabling works MV/LV/Signals
  • Input for planning permission, environmental permission and cogeneration grants
